In his journal, Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck called East of Eden 'the first book,' and indeed it has the primordial power and simplicity of myth. Set in the rich farmland of California's Salinas Valley, this sprawling and often brutal novel follows the intertwined destinies of two families—the Trasks and the Hamiltons—whose generations helplessly reenact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel.
The masterpiece of Steinbeck's later years, East of Eden is a work in which Steinbeck created his most mesmerizing characters and explored his most enduring themes: the mystery of identity, the inexplicability of love, and the murderous consequences of love's absence. Adapted for the 1955 film directed by Elia Kazan introducing James Dean, and read by thousands as the book that brought Oprah's Book Club back, East of Eden has remained vitally present in American culture for over half a century.

Really enjoyed this classic by John Steinbeck. His writing helps one connect with humanity, even if it's a part of humanity one is not familiar with
One of the best ..maybe the best for me. The writing was crisp..for lack of a better word..and straight forward. The reading was seamless. Not what I expected. So much better. Explained to me why I like the cave so much. John Steinbeck is an explainer of life and the why of it.
I enjoyed re-reading this classic. Exceptional writing with a fine narrator.
This is certainly an American Masterpiece. I loved every page, every word. The narration was superb!

Great Narrator! Thank you Mr. Poe
Second time reading this book, but it's one of the most incredible books ever written. The narator does an awesome job and makes to book very entertaining to listen to.
Absolutely loved this book. The narrator was fantastic. The book itself did have some long, narrative places, but if you can get through those, it will be well worth it. I started reading this book, but I ended up liking to listen to it much better.
Brilliant. The review feature of audiobooks.com requires 50 characters, while the word 'brilliant' sums it all up. Brevity has its place when it comes to criticism.
Narrators worked for me! Captured the essence of the story precisely! I had to quit cleaning
